POST TIME      Ray Acre has retired. Thirty six years ago Ray lived in a tent south of the Chicago railroad yards while experimenting with the 1905 model of the Montgomery glider fitted with a Bates engine, in which enterprise Victor Loughead and E. F. Andrews were also associated. In between glider tests of the Montgomery machine Ray flew Plew's 25-horsepower Curtiss. The only other machine there besides the freaks was Wittemann's plane sold to bike-rider Miller. It mentions several references to the career of Raymond Acre and also another pioneer aviator, the Rev. Arthur T. Clark. You will also find mention of Lauren Dates, a good friend of Raymond, whose son in fact is named after him. It is one of the few articles I have been able to find online, (April 9, 2004), and I can only hope it will remain available for some time in the future.
