BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
via email from Victor Nitu, 3-21-05
Tache Brumarescu was born in 1872 at Valenii de Munte. During his lifetime he had around 150
inventions, one them being an airplane. His unusual design was named the helicopter-airplane. It was built in 1909. Two years
passed before he managed to buy an Gnome-Rhone 50 HP engine and learned to fly an aircraft. The first and only flight made by
Columba (the name of his airplane) took place on 27 May 1911 at Bucharest, on the Cotroceni field. During the flight he noticed the
airplane was loosing its balance and decided to land, but the sudden maneuver resulted in a crash. The propeller broke and the
engine was blocked. He was injured at one leg. The accident marked the end of his aviation experiments.
He passed away in 1937 in Bucharest.
