GORDESCO Mario Ugo 1884 - 1920 Nato ad Arco (Arcola) della Spezia (12 dicembre 1884). S. Tenente dei Bersaglieri, conseguì il brevetto di pilota il 2 agosto 1912 e quello militare nel 1914. Aveva partecipato alla guerra italo - turca. Fu istruttore alla Scuola di S. Giusto indi a quella della Malpensa. Partecipò alla guerra contro l'Austria nella 75a Squadriglia, poi nella 80a indi Comandante del 13° Gruppo da Caccia, infine alla Scuola di Acrobazia di Furbara. Preparò e prese parte con Grassa al raid Roma - Tokio partendo da Gioia del Colle; i due aviatori decedevano a Bushir il 12 aprile 1920 per incidente di volo. Decorato di medaglia d'argento e di bronzo al valor militare; insignito della Croce di Cav. della Corona d'Italia; Croce del Sol Levante (Giappone) in memoria. Pioniere dell'Aeronautica Italiana. GORDESCO Mario Ugo 1884 - 1920 He was born in Arco (Arcola) La Spezia (December 12th, 1884). He was a second liutenant in the Bersaglieri corps and took out his pilot's license on August 2nd, 1912 and the military license in 1914. He participated in the Italian - Turkish war and was a flying instructor at the San Giusto School afterwords at Malpensa. He participated in the war against Austria in the 75th Squadron, later in the 80th. Afterwards he was Commander of the 13th Fighter Group and finally Commander of the School of Aerobatics at Furbara. He prepared and took part with Grassa in the flight from Rome - Tokyo starting from Gioia del Colle. Both aviators died in a plane crash at Bushir, (Bushehr - Iran), on April 12, 1920. Gordesco was decorated with the silver and bronze medal for valor, the Knight's Cross of the Crown of Italy, and the Cross of the Rising Sun (Japan) posthumously. He was an Italian aviation pioneer.
