via email from John Grech, 2-14-07 My father in law has found out that this chap joined the RFC but was discharged in late 1917/18. I will be going down to London on Sunday to collect the paperwork. I saw the item you found, is it a letter or a visiting card? How would you get a copy? Also if the chap was a member of the Royal Geographical Society, what is the link between the USA and the UK? The name is certainly not British? If he was an Asian Indian it would make sense? He was granted Royal Aero Club Certificate Am (American) 495, and American Aero Club No. 495? I will get back to you next week when I have the papers. Cheers John |
via email from John Grech, 2-23-07 It appears that Jeejeebhoy got around a bit. The following came from the Royal Geographical Society in London. Dear Mr Grech, Thank you for your email concerning Jeejebhoy Piroshaw Bomanjee Jeejebhoy. According to our Fellowship listings this gentleman was indeed a Fellow of the Society. He was elected in 1912 and his address is given as Pedder Road, Bombay, India. In 1916 his address is, Care of Messrs. T. Cook & Sons, Head Office, New York, United States. In 1923 he is listed as, Jeejeebhoy, Lieut. J.P.B. Care Of Messrs. Thomas Cook & So, Ludgate Circus, E.C.4. In 1926 his listing reads, Jeejeebhoy, Hon. Capt. Jeejeebhoy Piroshaw B., R.A.F. Cairnmore, Matheran, Bombay, India. This address is still recorded in the 1938 listings. Jeejebhjoy is no longer listed after 1946, but I cannot be sure of when he no longer appears as unfortunately there is a gap in our holdings. If you could up date your page as you see fit, who know’s someone might get in touch one day. Cheers John |
