We, the "Spielschar Burg Waldeck", a group of ten young men, a club, a lá
boy scouts, had been traveling in the years 1961 and 1962 throughout South America.
In Buenos Aires we met Lothar Herold, a well known climber and canoeist in the South-Andes. He was very familiar
with the whole area and of course he knew also the place where Gunther Plüschow and Ernst Dreblow crashed on 28th
of January 1931 with their "Silberkondor" into the Brazo Rico, Lago Argentino. At the beginning of the year 1957 the "First Plüschow-Kommission" was established in Buenos Aires (members: Juan Carlos Brohme, Walter Dreesen, Olaf Gall, Alberto Hellmich, Lothar Herold, Ernesto Lenzner, Dieter Menge, Karl Schade, Gerardo Strohschneider and Helmuth Brembach). The sculptor Adelina Nagrassus, member of the "Singkreis Vicente Lopez" in Buenos Aires, created the bronze plaque. Karl Schade moved the plaque to the Estanzia Punta del Lago, Lago Viedma, owned by Carlos Brohme. There it remained for a couple of years. In November 1957, the commission was given permission by the Santa-Cruz Government to build the monument at the Brazo Rico. The "Spielschar Burg Waldeck" stopped on the way to Tierra del Fuego at Brazo Rico and erected the memorial, starting work on Tuesday, April 3, 1962. Three days later, on the 6th of April, the opening ceremony took place. Members of the "Spielschar Burg Waldeck" - in alphabetical order- were Baums Manfred, von Buechau Rainer, Heinrichs Jörg, Husted Rolf, Ingendahl Ingo, Krause Helmut, Lechleiter Lothar, Müller Jupp (leader), Palm Peter and Plorin Armin. In the year 2003, I had been traveling again to Patagonia and realized that in the meantime a number of plaques have been added onto the memorial. In October 2010, a bronze statue. standing in front of a wall, has been added at the right hand side of the monument. |
