Collection of Stephen French, 3-3-04 |
Via email from Stephen French, 3-4-04 I was at an arms fair in the UK,and I asked a dealer if he had any WW1 pilot badges. He said he didn't !! An old boy of about 92 standing next to me tugged my shirt and said, "I've got a pilots badge ,World War 1, that you would like...I am not selling it but I will send you a picture." Rather than hurt the old man's feelings, I thanked him and said, "That would be really nice." I passed on my address and thought nothing more of it. Two weeks later photos arrived !! I was amazed !! I phoned him up and said how stunning the badge was...I also added I would love to buy it if he ever wanted to part with it . The deal was set at £250 !! but no, he then said, "I will send it to you to look at ..only then send me the money." True to his word, the badge arrived and I despatched the money... The badge has St Petersburg hallmarks and dates to 1917, + a very rare award. Kindest regards Steve |
