The Aerodrome Forum - German pilot Mario Scherff
This page on the Aerodrome Forum page offers a message from Bülent Yilmazer of Ankara-Turkey which contains the most helpful information on the life and career of Mario Scherff I have been able to find to date. This extract from his message is perhaps the most intriguing:

"Scherff, in his memoirs published in "Das Buch der deutschen Fluggeschichte" by Peter Supf, claims his observer Yuzbasi (Captain) Kemal was the same person as Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. However, this is completely false. Scherff flew observation and aerial bomb dropping missions around Edirne in Thrace. The event he describes in his memoirs takes place at this location."

Liste der 817 deutschen Piloten vor Kriegsausbruch 1914
You can access the site by clicking on the title above. Once there, if you scroll down to entry number 345, you will find his name and the date when he began his service. At least I think that may be the correct translation.
